International Market: India's textile exports have steadily picked up in the past three years

The Indian textile industry is one of the largest labor-intensive industries in the country. In the textile industry chain, one side is the hand-spinning and weaving enterprises, while the other is a capital-intensive and well-equipped textile enterprise.

The textile industry provides direct employment opportunities for more than 35 million people. Export companies play a key role in the economy and are one of the pillars of the national economy.

In 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11, the textile industry generated foreign exchange of 21.23 billion U.S. dollars, 22.42 billion U.S. dollars and 26.83 billion U.S. dollars, respectively.

In 2008-09, 2009-10 and 2010-11, exports of textiles and apparel products (including coir, coir, and jute) accounted for 11.46%, 12.54%, and 10.63% of the country's total economic exports, respectively. .

According to the latest provisional figures released by DGCI&S, during April-July 2011, the ratio of textiles and apparel exports to total exports was 9.28%.
