US cotton exports totaled 1,024,800 bales in January 2012

According to the USDA's Bureau of Agricultural Statistics, in January 2012, farmers in the United States received an average price of 87.40 cents. In contrast, the price received in the month of December was 88.50 cents, and in January 2011, the price was 82.10 cents. These prices include cotton for delivery on forward contracts.

In January 2012, US cotton exports totaled 1,024,800 bales. Exported 1,042,100 bales in the previous month and 1,396,400 bales in January 2011. A total of 4,179,000 packages were exported during the first six months of the current marketing year, compared with 5,690,900 packages exported last year to January.

The cotton contract was signed in 2012. As of January 31, the long-term contract for upland cotton was close to 169,000 acres, compared with 1,470,932 acres signed at the end of January last year.
