Wenling Shoe Company has taken precautionary measures to prevent the post-holiday labor shortage.

In order to prevent labor shortage after the Spring Festival, the owner and the government of Wenling, Zhejiang, plan ahead. Before the end of the year, people were asked to pay a salary, leave on vacation, and pick up and drop off.

In recent years, the owner of Zhejiang Wenling footwear industry has felt the pressure: How many skilled workers who are working for themselves can return to the factory after returning home in the New Year?

Hengfeng Street, which has the reputation of "Shoe Township," is one of the most developed townships in Wenling's local footwear industry. Every year before, because there are a large number of warm shoes that need to be processed, the people in the company thrive; and after the completion of the year, large orders fly and workers returning home have not yet returned.

It is understood that Hengfeng Street has already started its operations this year to try to reverse this situation, and business owners have also introduced various preferential measures and caring services early in order to retain the migrant workers' hearts.

Workers: "Sanguang can't afford injuries"

In Hengfeng, migrant workers still circulate the saying, “Where do you make money and don’t have money to send home all year round”? Outsiders listened attentively, but they had a lot of helplessness for migrant workers.

Sichuan worker Huang Lao has been to Hengfeng for 3 years and is one of the few “staying workers”. Speaking of the shoemaking work in Hengfeng, Huang also complained a lot. “Although wages have increased in these two years, the consumption level on this side has also increased rapidly.”

Lao Huang had calculated a sum of money. His monthly salary was 2,200 yuan, and rent and meals cost at least 1,500 yuan. The remaining hundreds of dollars to buy alcohol, cigarettes, and supplies were basically spent.

He said: "If you work all the way to work here, or you just eat up your life, you can't afford to hurt."

It was found that the main reason why migrant workers did not want to stay was that, in addition to complaining that treatment could not keep up with increasing local consumption, they also scrutinized that many days of rest could not be guaranteed. Wang Yi, a worker in Jiangxi province, said that in order to catch up, workers are often required to work overtime, there are no holidays, and there is little or no overtime pay.

Business owner: Moved employees to "true" but also "real money"

In order to retain workers after the Spring Festival, various companies have "made power" early and tried their best.

Trick one: rising wages in the peak season, rising three times in three days. Tuntian Village in the south of Hengfeng Street is a professional village with concentrated production of local soles, where small workshops are the mainstay. In one of the workshops, several workers are stepping up to keep warm shoes. "Usually a class pays 55 yuan per person. Now business is good. In order to make employees more motivated, I have already given them three pays in three days and it has already risen to 80 yuan." said the owner of the workshop, Zhao.

Trick II: early spring back to the factory after the Spring Festival Award, the sooner the more rewards to encourage the return of old employees to the factory, Taizhou Taijiang Footwear Co., Ltd. issued a policy to return to factory fare subsidies. "After the Lunar New Year, it will begin till the 12th of the first month. Old workers return to the factory to enjoy a 1,000 yuan fare subsidy from the company. If it is returned from the 12th of the lunar month to the 15th of the lunar month, the fare subsidy will be 800 yuan. In the first month of the 18th factory, there are probably subsidies for five or six hundred yuan,” said the company’s personnel manager, Mao Yiwen.

Trick 3: It is "required" for chartered employees to return home

Xuzhou boss of Taizhou Far East Footwear Co., Ltd. also has a good idea, he intends to rent a few buses specifically to send staff home for the New Year.

"Using the car to send them home, they can feel more about our company's attention and concern for them. I often talk to my employees now, so that they'll come back to see after the New Year."

Hengfeng Sub-district: “Upgrade wages and normal leave” all have contracts that can be followed by “can't wait for old workers to run away and recruit people.” Zhao Xiao (Feng Bo), Hengfeng Street Federation of Trade Unions, said that it is not as good as recruiting people after the year. Years ago, make preparations to retain skilled skilled workers as much as possible.

The local street general labor union coordinated the labor and management sides to negotiate, and the worker’s demand for salary increases was highest.

“Rising wages have become inevitable. Then how much is it appropriate to increase? Combined with the level of wages of the workers in the surrounding town (street) shoemaking enterprises, we finally determined that the minimum wage for general workers was raised from 1,200 yuan to 1,350 yuan, and the minimum wage for workers was determined by 1,350 yuan was raised to 1,550 yuan, said Zhao Xiaofen.

Regarding the employees’ general concern about labor time and employment, both employers and employees also agreed that employees should work no more than 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week. “In short, the rights and interests stipulated in the labor law, we will ensure that every migrant worker can enjoy it.” Zhao Xiaofen said that the street will also contract these measures. If the business owner violates, the employees can report and report to the street at any time.
