We absolutely adore what Jen did with the Liesl + Co. Everyday Skirt pattern! She crafted her very own block-printed fabric, which we think is just incredible. There's something so special about one-of-a-kind pieces like hers. Here’s Jen to share her experience with us.

Did the fabric work well?
Oh yes, it did! As a printmaker, I love creating my own fabrics, and this particular project was a lot of fun. The linen base I used is one I’ve worked with quite a bit before, but the print was something entirely new. Since then, I’ve made two more skirts using different fabrics—once in a green shirting cotton and another in a textured gray flannel.
How did the making go?
This was actually my very first attempt at sewing a skirt. I picked this pattern because it didn’t require an invisible zipper (at the time, I hadn’t yet learned how to insert one), and the flat front waistband seemed easier than dealing with elastic. The instructions were super clear, and I was pleasantly surprised by how smoothly everything went. By the time I finished, I was amazed at how professional and polished the skirt turned out.
What was the best part?
Definitely the side pockets! One of the coolest things about sewing for yourself is being able to add features like pockets to all your clothes. It’s such a practical detail that makes wearing handmade garments even better.
I hope this inspires others to dive into sewing their own projects, especially if they’re new to it like I was. There’s something incredibly rewarding about seeing your hard work come together in something you can wear every day!
