High-performance fibers such as carbon fiber are indispensable major strategic materials in the fields of aviation, aerospace, national defense construction, economic construction and scientific and technological progress, and are also one of the core technologies for lightweighting in the low-carbon economy. In recent years, driven by relevant national policies, China's carbon fiber industry has developed rapidly, process technology has been continuously optimized, production equipment has been continuously improved, and application fields have been continuously expanded, successfully solving the problem of “from scratch”. Recently, a high-end conference of the carbon fiber industry - "High-level Seminar on Carbon Fiber Industry Technology Development and 2016 China Chemical Fiber Industry Association Carbon Fiber Branch Annual Meeting" was held in Weihai, Shandong Province. The delegates concentrated on the future development of China's carbon fiber. Development direction and focus.

Global production capacity continues to increase

In 2015, China's carbon fiber production capacity was about 15,000 tons, and the annual output was about 3,500 tons, a slight decrease from the previous year. Among them, Weihai Development, Zhongfu Shenying, Jiangsu Hengshen, Jilin Carbon Valley, Fangdajiang City, Shanghai Petrochemical Seven companies, such as Zhejiang Jinggong, have basically maintained stable production of more than 100 tons.

Looking at the international market, in 2015, the global PAN-based carbon fiber production capacity reached 142,000 tons (small tows accounted for 70%), and the top five companies were Toray, Teijin, German SGL, Mitsubishi Rayon and US Zoltek, accounting for the global total. 60% of capacity, of which Toray's capacity accounts for about 18%.

With the extensive expansion of carbon fiber applications, major international carbon fiber companies are continuing to increase production capacity. Zhang Dingjin, chairman of China Composites Group Co., Ltd. pointed out: "The Teijin Group will invest 30 billion yen in the US state of South Carolina to build a new carbon fiber plant, which is arguably the largest investment in equipment of the group in the past decade. It is understood that the maximum annual production capacity of the new plant is 3,000 tons. The increase in production will increase the annual carbon fiber production capacity of the group by about 30%.

"Dongli also announced plans to invest 100 billion yen in 2020 to build a new high-performance carbon fiber production line in the United States, with an initial annual output of 2,000 tons. Mitsubishi Liyang also recently announced that it will add equipment investment to its Dazhu business. The annual production capacity of tow carbon fiber has increased from the current 2,700 tons to 3,900 tons. The new equipment is expected to be put into operation in the third quarter of 2017. By 2017, the total capacity of Mitsubishi Rayon will increase from the current 10,100 tons to 13,300 tons. Raise about 30%." Zhang Dingjin introduced.

Strong demand in civil and industrial sectors

Relevant data show that the total amount of global PAN-based carbon fiber in 2015 was about 60,000 tons, and the aviation, industrial and sports/leisure industries accounted for 22%, 62% and 16% respectively. “The industries that have a large increase in demand for carbon fiber are wind power, molding plastics, pressure vessels and automobiles.” Zhang Dingjin expects that by 2020, the demand for carbon fiber will reach 100,000 tons, of which 72% will be used in the automotive industry. Wind power industry.

At present, China's car ownership is about 150 million vehicles, 70% of refined oil is used for motor vehicle fuel. It is estimated that by 2025, the number of cars will be 300 million. It is difficult for the national energy development strategy to meet this growth demand. Environmental degradation such as 霾 needs to be resolved. Lightweight technology is one of the most effective engineering methods for reducing fuel consumption, reducing emissions, and improving the cruising range of electric vehicles. It is also one of the core technologies and core competencies proposed by China Manufacturing 2025, while high-performance fiber composites are lightweight. The most technically efficient engineering material. Yu Muhuo, a professor at Donghua University, said that almost all auto companies in the world are developing carbon fiber vehicles. At the same time, parts companies, carbon fiber companies, resin substrates, composite materials and other companies are also developing carbon fiber auto parts.

"BMW i3 & i8 is a model for the use of carbon fiber composite materials in automotive lightweight design. At present, BMW can produce about 100 i3 and 10 to 20 i8 per day. The manufacturing process saves 50% and saves 70% of water compared with traditional car manufacturing. The BMW i3 was launched in Germany in 2013, and the current order is far beyond the planned production capacity. The BMW i3 is rapidly increasing its production capacity.” Zhang Dingjin said that the demand for carbon fiber in the automotive field will continue to grow in the future, and global carbon fiber is expected to be 2018. Demand in the automotive sector will be around 8,600 tons, and will reach 47,000 tons by 2024.

In addition, Zhang Dingjin also analyzed the carbon fiber production capacity, output and application in 2015: “Currently, the carbon fiber cloth in the construction field has shown a demand and price trend. The demand for composite sheet and prepreg is gradually increasing, and the demand for molded products is increasing. The upward trend of carbon fiber application in the future is broad. "Luo Yifeng, director of the National Special Synthetic Fiber Information Center and editor of "High-tech Fibers and Applications" magazine, also proposed that the research and development and industrialization of carbon fiber and carbon fiber composite materials have entered a major innovation period in the future. In 5 to 10 years, it will usher in the heyday of great development. At the same time, with the continuous decline in production costs and the development of low-cost recycling technology, its market applications will gradually become more popular and become a new type of bulk products.

High efficiency, low cost development test domestic enterprises

Wang Yingchao, Secretary of the Board of Directors and Deputy General Manager of Weihai Guangwei Composite Materials Co., Ltd. said that although the domestic carbon fiber has solved the problem of “from scratch”, it is still at a low level, compared with the carbon fiber countries such as the United States and Japan. There is still a big gap in the current technical level, manufacturing level and quality stability of carbon fiber.

Yu Muhuo believes that although lightweight technology brings great opportunities for the carbon fiber industry, it should be seen that there are certain development bottlenecks between China's carbon fiber and automobile lightweight, such as the lack of carbon fiber vehicles and their parts structure design, databases and standards, and The production cost of parts and components is high, and there is a lack of upstream and downstream cooperation mechanisms.

“In the terminal manufacturing industry, when calculating the cost of the existing intermediates, the conclusion is that the cost is too high, and the plan to use carbon fiber parts is directly negated. At this stage, the most important thing is that the carbon fiber industry should clearly tell the manufacturing industry. The real cost of scale application, do not use unreasonable quotations, to scare off a large number of manufacturing industries that want to use carbon fiber." Yu Muhuo called.

At present, international carbon fiber manufacturers are constantly striving to develop low-cost production technologies. Yu Muhuo introduced that the US Oak Park National Laboratory began researching and preparing low-cost carbon fiber in 2001. In 2016, it issued a technology license, and its "large-wound acrylic fiber + microwave plasma carbonization" technology can reduce the cost by 50%; Japan's "PAN aromatic cyclization" + Microwave plasma carbonization technology can increase production efficiency by 10 times.

Zhang Dingjin also introduced that the University of Tokyo, in conjunction with the Japan Industrial Technology Research Institute, Toray, Teijin, Toho Texex (Teijin Group), and Mitsubishi Rayon have jointly developed a new carbon fiber manufacturing technology. This technology eliminates the need for the fiber to heat up in the air for a long time, reducing the energy and carbon dioxide emissions necessary to make carbon fiber by about half compared to the prior art. “The use of new technology will increase the current maximum production of carbon fiber of 1,000 tons per line per line by a factor of nine.”

Fortunately, Donghua University is also developing a new technology for low-cost production of carbon fiber. The research on "PAN aromatic cyclization + melt or dry spray wet spinning + rapid oxidation" technology has been granted 2 US invention patents, Japan. Authorized 5 invention patents and 3 Chinese invention patents. Currently, the technology is in the pilot stage.

Luo Yifeng pointed out that the polyacrylonitrile-based carbon fiber represented by Japanese companies is developing in the direction of high performance, ultra-high efficiency, low cost and low energy consumption. The carbon fiber composite material represented by the American Oak Park National Laboratory Manufacturing System Research Group is positive. The development process is faster and more efficient, including the development of additional equipment manufacturing, automated production lines, high-precision equipment or new molding methods, in which 3D printed composites are close to practical use.

“The innovative direction of carbon fiber and its composite materials represents the future research and development goals of carbon fiber and its composite materials. In addition, in order to meet the special needs of specific applications, especially in the aerospace and defense fields, the domestic carbon fiber industry will continue to develop new resin systems and embed them. The CFRP component of the grating sensing fiber.

Luo Yifeng proposed.

At present, there are more than 30 carbon fiber enterprises in China, the overall scale is small, and it is impossible to compete with international leading enterprises with an annual output of 30,000 tons. Yu Muhuo believes that China urgently needs to establish industrial large-strand carbon fiber technology and its industrial chain. At the same time, it supports the research and development of small tow carbon fiber and large tow carbon fiber manufacturing technology, and promotes the technical level of carbon fiber industry chain with industrial application.

Yu Muhuo also suggested that in the future, a number of “high-performance fiber and light-weight industrial chain demonstration projects” should be established to form a complete demonstration project with reasonable operating rates, continuous and stable operation, and reasonable corporate profits in all links of the industrial chain; Scale benefits, participate in international competition; set up key technologies for “high-performance fiber and lightweight”, increase scientific and technological research; establish high-performance fiber and lightweight technology and talent training system in China; formulate high-performance fiber and lightweight composite in China Material industry development policy to optimize the development environment.

Carbon fiber concept stocks appear

The star effect of carbon fiber and the huge development space of the industry itself have attracted the attention of the capital market, and the capital market has produced “carbon fiber concept stocks”.

At present, some A-share companies with carbon fiber concepts, such as Hebang Bio, Shenda, etc., are already using the capital market platform, and plan to raise carbon fiber through non-public offering of shares; Hengshen has completed two through the new three-board market. Sub-financing; Jilin Carbon Valley was also listed in February this year. At present, there are 9 listed companies involved in the A-share carbon fiber business, including AVIC Hi-Tech, Fangda Carbon, Huaxun Ark, and Shanghai Petrochemical. At the same time, there are three companies listed on the New Third Board, including Hengshen, Jilin Carbon Valley and Haoyuan New Materials.

“The domestic carbon fiber industry has taken the first step towards the capital market. Although there is no A-share listed company with carbon fiber as its main business, there are already many listed companies with carbon fiber as the extension business, and the carbon fiber concept stock has been formed initially. "Wang Yingchao introduced.

Wang Yingchao also pointed out: "We should learn from the industrial development experience of global carbon fiber leaders such as Toray, Hexcel and SGL in Germany, and encourage carbon fiber manufacturers and downstream industries, such as well-known automobile and aviation companies, to establish capital or strategy. At the same level, the deep interest bundled cooperation model. We also recommend that the relevant state departments carry out a new round of industrial support aimed at improving carbon fiber industrialization technology and improving the maturity of process technology, and promoting domestic carbon fiber from 'have' to 'strong'. Relevant policies encourage carbon fiber enterprises to move more toward the capital market and integrate the carbon fiber industry with the help of capital. As long as we are united, domestic carbon fiber will break through the bottleneck and usher in its poetry and distance!” At present, almost all auto companies in the world Conducting research and development of carbon fiber vehicles.
