Trends in the application of refractories in glass furnaces

[China Glass Network] For many years, melt-cast AZS furnace roofs have successfully withstood the test of cooling and reheating to enable them to use multiple operating cycles. A little experience has been accumulated to successfully implement fused alumina top cooling and reheating, which is economically more viable when they are used for two or more operating cycles. The results of the fused alumina tops observed during use (thermal observation and shutdown observation) show that these materials are both chemically and mechanically stable. This was an earlier observational study of this masonry because there was neither a reference for fused alumina nor an empirical basis for its application at the top of the furnace.

High-chromium refractory products have been used mainly in reinforced glass furnaces and in small quantities in insulated glass cell furnaces. High chrome bricks are now increasingly being used in certain soda lime glass pool furnaces. Its main use has not only been limited to all or part of the fluid hole, but also to the end wall and to a limited extent the corner brick for the feed opening. For the composition of high chromium bricks, they present a potential coloring hazard such that high chromium products are generally not compatible with very "white" glass. This product was mainly used for colored glass in the early days, but now high chromium products have also been successfully used in transparent container glass furnaces. The amount of high chromium product used in a glass furnace depends to a large extent on the design of the fluid hole, the cooling of the fluid hole, the daily production of the furnace, and the operation of the furnace. A glass manufacturer may use high chrome bricks for all cover plates plus the end wall of the melt pool. High-chrome brick masonry fluids offer the potential to increase furnace life, as this material is at least twice as resistant to erosion as most molten AZS bricks. However, some design and operating parameters are different from molten AZS bricks and need to be discussed with the supplier.

Low glass phase fused AZS refractories have been successfully used on the upper structure of the melting pool for several years on a limited basis. Pure oxygen combustion technology causes it to be used more widely in the superstructure of the melting pool for two reasons: the front, the low glass phase content leads to a very low amount of exudation of the glass phase, and is higher than the conventional molten AZS brick. The structure is more "dry". Second, the low glass phase content gives it a higher creep performance, which increases the normal operating temperature from 1600 ° C to 1650 ° C. This is more useful for the superstructure of the feed zone of a pure oxy-fired kiln, where the molten AZS bricks must not only resist the erosion of the powder particles from the combustion gas stream, but also withstand higher temperatures, 1650 °C. Melting pool wall bricks have recently developed new varieties that improve the erosion resistance of the top (liquid line) and have been field tested. This type of wall brick uses a special method to control the crystal structure of the liquid line portion, so that the brick has much stronger corrosion resistance than the standard cast AZS brick in the liquid line portion. This new type of wall brick is considered for use in a flame-burning furnace (mainly soda-lime glass), and we have found that its normal erosion pattern is more severe at the liquid line or at 300 mm from the top of the brick. When the excellent microstructure of these pool bricks is combined with their thermomechanical properties (the effect of cold wind from the liquid line), there is reason to believe that the corrosion resistance can be greatly improved (lower liquid line) The rate of erosion of the part). The wall bricks using this technology are monitored in the running pool furnace and the results of these tests will begin to accumulate over the next few years.

High zirconium electrofusion products (HZFC or fused zirconia) have been widely accepted as refractory materials in contact with glass for specific locations in certain high quality glass furnaces. The reason for using the refractory of this component varies, and varies depending on the type of glass. The color TV tube screen glass is very erosive to HZFC, but it is also used for the bottom and pool wall tiles at the end of the fluid hole of the melting pool because it can greatly reduce glass defects such as nodules, bubbles and stones. . The erosion resistance of the fused zirconia refractory is not superior to that of the molten AZS, but usually it is sufficient to maintain an entire kiln cycle. Thus, the use of HZFC in a color TV tube screen glass cell furnace can greatly improve the quality of the glass without reducing the life of the furnace.
