H&M, the world's largest fashion retailer by market value, said on Thursday that it expects the total number of stores in the Greater China region will increase to 27 by the end of 2009, a further increase from the current 21.

H&M opened its sixth branch in Hong Kong today, together with the 15 stores currently in China, with a total of 21 stores. When interviewed by Reuters, Lex Keijser, general manager of H&M Greater China, revealed that the total number of stores in the Greater China region will increase to 27 by the end of the year.

“We will grow where we find opportunities. We have six stores that will open in China and we will have 27 stores by the end of this year. It's only three years, and you can see how big the potential is,” Lex Keijser said.

However, H&M has not yet set up a branch in Taiwan. Lex Keijser said it is still looking for a suitable location. H&M has been actively expanding around the world in recent years. It has approximately 1,800 stores in 34 markets around the world and will open its first branch in Seoul, South Korea in March next year.
