Huang Weiji, secretary general of the Taiwan Textile Industry Development Association, said that the so-called functional textiles are composite fabrics that have the functions of moisture absorption, quick drying, breathability, waterproof, anti-static, anti-ultraviolet and far-infrared, and have a beautiful shape and quality. Since 1998, Taiwanese textile industry has been working hard to develop multi-functional fabrics, and there are currently more than 20 varieties.
Huang Weiji said that some international brands have emphasized the use of natural fibers only, but have adopted functional textiles since last year. Taiwan's related products are welcomed in the market. Taiwanese manufacturers' orders have been placed in May and June this year. The main buyers are companies with sports and leisure brands in the United States, France and Germany.
Despite this, the Taiwan textile industry is facing an increasingly difficult situation because it does not have a competitive advantage as a whole. Huang Weiji said that he hopes that Taiwan's textile industry will cooperate with mainland department stores and popular brand companies in the future to let Taiwan's high-end fabrics enter the mainland market, and to combine Taiwan's raw materials with the mainland's well-known brands to create more advanced clothing and achieve mutual benefit.
